The macOS installer doesn't see your disk or can't install on it. When using Disk Utility 16.3 with macOS Sierra to format a 'thumbdrive' USB 3 Lexar flash drive (64 gigs), when I choose a Format of ‘Mac OS Extended (Journaled)’, I get a list of three Scheme item. MS-DOS (FAT) and ExFAT: File systems that are compatible with Windows. Mac OS Extended: The file system used by macOS 10.12 or earlier. Disk Utility on Mac supports several file system formats: Apple File System (APFS): The file system used by macOS 10.13 or later. File system formats available in Disk Utility on Mac.
Unfortunately, Disk Utility in macOS High Sierra doesn’t make that option easy to find. Formatting a drive so you can install and boot macOS requires the GUID partition map. The latest version of Office offers an interface that is optimized for OS X Yosemite, bringing a flatter look, and better integrates Office with Microsoft’s cloud services. Microsoft has released a preview of Office 2016, which you can download from the Office Web site (a 2.66GB download) and install on any Mac that supports it. In any event backup before you update because glitches do sometime happen. You have to go to MS' site and update Office for Mac to in order for it to work with Yosemite. The first time it asked me to activate the license online again which I did however, this has not stopped them crashing constantly. For some unknown reason microsoft excel and word have started crashing constantly a few seconds after restarting. Microsoft Office 2016 for mac (OS X Yosemite 10.10.5) keeps crashing.

To install Office 2016 for Mac, you must be running OS X Yosemite 10.10 or a later version, and you must have a valid Office 365 Subscription.
